Job Description:  

The role of an apprentice commercial body builder will be to expand their skills, knowledge and understanding of the industry and job within the work and college environment. As well as this, apprentices will be building on their knowledge and understanding of health and safety within our working environment.

Whilst at work, the apprentice role will involve assisting qualified employees in completing jobs, helping with housekeeping, measuring materials, using hand tools, and supporting their colleagues.

When the apprentice is competent and comfortable in the above tasks, they will develop the use of tools, equipment, and machinery such as the guillotine, band saw, press brake, overhead crane and much more.

The apprentice will have experience in working with different employees to help complete a range of jobs. They will also be given the chance to look at job sheets and see how a fully qualified employee takes a job sheet and creates the job from it.

Desired Qualifications:  

To become an apprentice commercial body builder, you will need to meet the entry requirements of the training provider for entry onto the programme.

Candidates ideally should have GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in maths and English.

Things to Consider:

The workshop is a high-risk working environment which involves using dangerous machinery and tools as well as some hazardous substances.

Although candidates will not be using any machinery until they are 18+ and completely qualified and competent, full PPE must still be worn whilst working in the workshop.

Micra Truck Bodies is a limited company which specialises in the quality building of commercial vehicle bodies. It was originally set up in 1995 by Mick Hodgson (the managing director) and his wife, Tracy who is also a director of the company.

Micra Truck Bodies always strive to deliver work of the upmost quality, giving them a great reputation in the industry. Micra Truck bodies is located in the centre of Wakefield and currently has 40 staff members.
